struggling with this blog ………….

Howdy all

Yip im finding it very difficult to keep this blog going of late…im so damn busy that i hardly have the time anymore…..and to make matters worse this computer has developed a mind of its own…or more like a lack of  mind…….keeps going into these freeze modes……most frustrating……….

well it seems winter has finally taken hold of the southern hemisphere…….it was so misty round our place this morning i could not even see the front gate…..very spooky and beautiful it was although i hate winter….leaving home in the dark and getting home in the dark really sucks…………..on the upside weve had some really nice fires at night…….not that i get anywhere near the fire with  all the dogs and cats inside laying around……………

Its really starting to get cold here where i work in my little cardboard box in the massive open ended warehouse…….the building chanells the wind inside itself and it actually colder inside than out……….but its not as cold as its gonna get as we get deeper into the season…………it gets really freezing in here…….ahhh i hate it.

we have run out of coffee here….can you imagine that?……i just cannot function without caffiene in the morning so its slow going here today…………….think i might murder someone if that driver dont get back with the coffee soon,,,,,,,,,,but at least the chatterbox chick is keeping quite this morning……..boy is this girl noisy and loud….EXTREMELY FUCKING LOUD.

I got a really cool article about ships engines that i wish to post with pics and all but do you think this  infernal machine will allow it …no….seems its got a problem with loading pics now……so ill just have to bore you all with my drivel………which reminds me…i actually have a camera…a pretty good one…….but just am not into it right now….weird how sometimes i loose intrest in something that i really enjoy….not even sure where the camera is right now….will have to dig it out this weekend and take some pics of my box making escapade…..which is coming on well by the way…….varnished the first two this weekend and thay are looking rather posh….will start putting all the trimmings and fancy bits on soon……………

Anyway thats enough rambling for now…lets go an see if i can bum some coffee from next door …before i wring someones neck……..or smash this computer to bits…..luckily i dont have a window or this machine would have had it long ago

Have a greatday all

middle east…………

Morning all

Yeah i know its friday and its supposed to be a light hearted day but this is whats on my mind. I have been reading news 24 .yes i know i shouldnt read that crap and i notice that the whole “lets bomb iran” thingy is in the news again…….

Ok reading through the comments i just cannot help but notice how narrow minded many of the comments are ,from both sides of the argument.

This is how i see it. firstly get it out of your minds that the world is ,ever has or ever will be run according to this little ideoligy that you all have…..in its modern incarnation its called democracy. This is not and never has been the case…and never will be…the world is run by the guys with the biggest gun. Once you understand this you will realize that world power politics is a game of chess with the earth being the chess board.

Now on a chess board the white pieces are not moraly or ethically superior to the black peices, they are all equal in this regard, they are part and parcel of the game of chess. It is the game of chess itself that is evil not the pieces.

Now stand back and look at the map……look at iran……do you see just how strategically important iran is?………not only for the oil that it posseses………….it is indeed the gateway par excellence………a gateway between not only all the other oil rich areas in the mid east and caucasus but a gateway between the worlds major great civilizations……….it has been the centre of the world since the begining of recorded history………what was alexander the great about?…….the romans? ?…….the crusades?…….why did europeans purposly setb out to find sailing routes around this easy land route?………..nothing is new under the sun.

So on a chess board you have various piece, kings and queens (usa, china, russia) and various lesser pieces such as bishops, knights (isreal, britian, iran,,saudi arabia) and pawns (syria, libya etc). This is the game and it will be played forever…………

remember it is the game that is evil which makes the players of all sides equal participants in the evil game so arguments about the evil USA imperialists are irrelevant as the evil russain and chinese imperialists are playing the same game.

Take away all US military personel from the area tomorrow and russian ones will move in and do the same thing next week………is america responsible for what is happening in afghanistan?…yes and no…..but it all started in 1979 when the soviet union invaded……….they did not leave till 1988……….so whos to blame?

All that is left for us to do is choose which evil we will support in the event of a global conflict……not that it makes any diffrence as if it happens we will all be swept along regardless………..yes even you pacifists and non aligned types….of which i am one ……….ethics, morality and all that goody two shoes shite do not apply in this game of chess……………so choose your side and dont try to justify your particular brand of evil…………

But remember once the demon of war is let loose he reigns supreme and you cannot control him or the outcome…….this lesson applies to all you race hate mongers in south africa too.

be careful what you wish for.

Ok heavy yes i know, not sure why i had to get them thoughts out of my head but i have and feel better now.

Have a greatday all

vacant ramblings……leather and fire…

Morning all

Despite all the things ive got going on at the moment i have absolutly nothing to blog about….strange how that happens…..my mind is racing with things that im doing that it has no inclination to play with and construct words…..or photographs for that matter……like the fact that last night i sandpapered some brand new shiny imitation leather to make it look worn out….i mean who in their right mind buys a brand new, perfectly good product and then porceeds to destroy it?……well i do…………

Ive been pricing leather …..wow its not cheap……but it is considerably cheaper to buy the whole hide than it is to buy smaller piece…..more capital outlay yes… but cheaper……ive seen what i want…..a red sort of chestnut hide which is about half a cm thick…..very durable, tough and many uses………its gotta be tough if used for strapping….but its more than i require…..well i guess i can make myself a cool pair of sandals……and a hat……..ive made some cool roman sandals in the past but ive never made a hat…….

Ive got a whole garden full of free wood……and many splinters in my hands…….all for free….this guy who i get them from has now started contacting me to come and take them away as they are considered a fire hazard and effect his iso 9002, or whatever it is called these days, rating…….how cool is that?……..so im actually looking forward to the winter so i can light a huge fire…….i love fire…..real pyromaniacs are we……so cool to watch how fire develops…….im somewhat of a fire making expert……..i recall the time when we first got the fireplace……i was inexperienced….and i lite such a huge fire that was so hot that we had to all go and stand outside in the freezing cold…….the fire place ,which is metal, was actually glowing red for a while…….quite scary as for a moment i thought we might actually burn the house down……..and it was too hot to go into the lounge…….we did actually melt one of the hi fi speakers…………

Then i recall we used to run a tuck shop so we had many of those cardboard boxes that crisps come in……..we would sit on the stoep (veranda) and put these fully assembled boxes upside down on the braai (bbq)…….. in such away that the heat collects in the inside of the box……this is an awesome practice as the box slowly begins to turn brown and then explodes in a sheet of flame and releases all that heat that is trapped inside……many happily singed eyebrows………..its really hot…..and good fun once youve had a couple of drinks………..

When we go camping i always take one large log for every night we are there……we supplement this with wood that we buy at the campsite…….once the large log is burning and turning to coal you have the basis for a really efficient fire that will burn until morning with only the addition of minimal amounts of additional fuel……..

Ok see……..although i started with nothing to say its actually rather easy to just jot down whatever comes into your head at the moment…….a good excersize id say……….gets the blogging mojo moving a little……i could ramble on all day now…….

But i wont

Have a greatday all

the greatgodpan is alive…believe it or not.

Howdy all

Well ive been a bit scarce latly because ive actually been extremly busy at work. We have had a lot of long weekends and public holidays latly, which is absolutly great but I being in the international freight industry, the cargo never takes a public holiday and aircraft come and go regardless, so its all been piled up in backlog and keeping me very busy.

One the homefront, which is much more important than this corporate make a buck in order to survive thingy, many interesting little projects are taking place.Despite all this I have nothing really prepared to blog about .So ad hoc talking crap as it comes out of my head is the order of the day.

Ok over the weekend I managed to scrounge three van loads of wooden pallets. Now my original intention was to use these in my fireplace this winter but on examining these pallets it has become apparent that this timber is of a high quality and burning them will be a waste. They are made of some or other good quaility pine which i believe may come from the baltic. The timber is smooth planed and the edges are beveled, really good workmanship for something as mundane as a pallet .Now south african pine is in my opinion generally of very poor quality in comparison and tends to split and crack easily. So i wont be burning them afterall.

Now together with these pallets are a large collection of broken down packaging boxes, all of the same good quality and workmanship which are essentially pre manufactured boxes. So i have began cutting these down to smaller sizes and have remanufactured my first box with the intention of turning this into a replica vintage pirate chest (aarghhh me hearties this is where it gets groovy .)

I have sourced some brass hinges and clasps ,ok they are this modern imitation brass  but real old school brass is way too expensive.I am currently sourcing leather strapping and brass buckles and have got fatty working on lining the inside of these boxes in green or maroon polar fleece material, now baize is what i really want but that too is rather pricy.

I have printed some logos off of the internet  (ships, skull and crossbones and related..I have made a template of the dutch east india company logo which i like and think is a good idea) I intend to get my girls to burn these onto the sides of the boxes with a soldering iron before i varnish them.

In addition we have recently got into making our own biltong. For those of you who are not south african biltong is a kind of spicy (lots of corriander) dried beef which you may know as jerky. Ive never tried jerky but have been told that it is crap in comparison to biltong. Now biltong is delicious and is a highly valued product here in south africa. So i am also working on making small pirate chest boxes that i intend filling with biltong and pecan nuts from the tree in front garden, and throwing in cheapo knife.I have some cheapo (chinese crap) knives which i used to sell on the flea market and by removing the very nasty looking plastic handles and replacing them with oak or iroko handles they look relativly posh.

So as you can see ive been and am very busy and my scrounging expedition has turned into a business oppertunity. And i really like pirates and old antique wooden thingys which makes it fun too.I do hope and believe that if i play my cards right i can get continuos supply of this good quality absolutly free timber.Very resourcful is i.

So ive had no time to take any photies but i will and my grandaughter is sick and i have not seen her for awhile,She is my favourite photographic subject.

Ok that was not too bad for a ramble off the top of my head.

Have a greatday all

weekend theme…….the birth

She lay in the dust began to die
Wondering how long it would take her
The scorpion drooled winked his eye
Wondered if he could make her
The pain was right twice as nice
She realised she was in labour
Life was a fight with men and mice
Mind how you talk to your neighbours

She cried in the heat shaking her meat
Sure she needed no friend
As much as this was beginning
It would sure make a beautiful end
The sand blew up in confusion
Salt running out of her pores
That being borne inside her
Was near to the end of its course

Her tits thrust up to Heaven
Her back was arched like a bow
The heat in the mother lay quiet
It was a long way to come just to go
Her body lay limp in the desert
Soaked with the love she gave
Her shadow will lie there forever
Reminding us all of that day

The scorpion wandered all over her body
Vultures stood still in the sky
If this was the end of beginning
Who was born and did anyone die

How those birds searched for her offspring
Craving to beat off her pride
So futile was all of their searching
Nothing that lived had ….. such eyes…………………………………..EDGAR BROUGHTON BAND

predators of the porch or villians of the veranda.

Morning all

I have this bunch of really old  (1960 odd)  42 mm screw mount lenses which ive been experimenting with by attaching them to a bellows exention and using as makro lenses. I had to modify the cameras dust cover to make use of the bayonet fitting in order to do this….not an ideal solution but it does work.

Now this whole contraption is really heavy and large (200mm zoom lense) ,as things were in the 1960s and is really hard to keep still. The extreme  narrow depth of field makes it really hard to obtain and retain focus. Add to this the fact that the wind was blowing and you will appreciated just how difficult it was to get these pictures.

It does however work and will be of more use in an indoor totally static role.

I am really glad that im not as small as the perception in the pictures would indicate.

Have a greatday all

dont ask……….

Howdy all

Too busy for real blogging right now so here are a few cut and paste lyrics that are running in my head.

I hate this old place

What it represents

And I hate who I was

Who I ended up since

If you learned how to swim

Just in case you drown
Don’t ask her for the water

 ‘Cause she’ll swallow you down

And she’s ten miles of peace

In the hardest of nights

And her belfry’s got arch

But her rooftops are all right

But down here in the sewer

I’m smelling a rat

Don’t ask her for the whiskey

‘Cause her water’s all that

And what horses we rode

Through what somber fields

 With our lovers at war

And the dust on our heels

And the infidels screamed

“It’s all but a lie”

Don’t ask her for the water

‘Cause she’ll teach you to cry

Don’t ask her for the water

‘Cause she’ll teach you to cry
And her weapon of choice

 Is a red patterned dress

And a sack full of stones

With her hands on her chest

And a book full of quotes

And a tight fastened lip

Don’t ask her for the water

‘Cause she’ll sink like a ship

Don’t ask her for the water

‘Cause she’ll sink like a ship ………………………………….RYAN ADAMS
