vacant ramblings……leather and fire…

Morning all

Despite all the things ive got going on at the moment i have absolutly nothing to blog about….strange how that happens…..my mind is racing with things that im doing that it has no inclination to play with and construct words…..or photographs for that matter……like the fact that last night i sandpapered some brand new shiny imitation leather to make it look worn out….i mean who in their right mind buys a brand new, perfectly good product and then porceeds to destroy it?……well i do…………

Ive been pricing leather …..wow its not cheap……but it is considerably cheaper to buy the whole hide than it is to buy smaller piece…..more capital outlay yes… but cheaper……ive seen what i want…..a red sort of chestnut hide which is about half a cm thick…..very durable, tough and many uses………its gotta be tough if used for strapping….but its more than i require…..well i guess i can make myself a cool pair of sandals……and a hat……..ive made some cool roman sandals in the past but ive never made a hat…….

Ive got a whole garden full of free wood……and many splinters in my hands…….all for free….this guy who i get them from has now started contacting me to come and take them away as they are considered a fire hazard and effect his iso 9002, or whatever it is called these days, rating…….how cool is that?……..so im actually looking forward to the winter so i can light a huge fire…….i love fire…..real pyromaniacs are we……so cool to watch how fire develops…….im somewhat of a fire making expert……..i recall the time when we first got the fireplace……i was inexperienced….and i lite such a huge fire that was so hot that we had to all go and stand outside in the freezing cold…….the fire place ,which is metal, was actually glowing red for a while…….quite scary as for a moment i thought we might actually burn the house down……..and it was too hot to go into the lounge…….we did actually melt one of the hi fi speakers…………

Then i recall we used to run a tuck shop so we had many of those cardboard boxes that crisps come in……..we would sit on the stoep (veranda) and put these fully assembled boxes upside down on the braai (bbq)…….. in such away that the heat collects in the inside of the box……this is an awesome practice as the box slowly begins to turn brown and then explodes in a sheet of flame and releases all that heat that is trapped inside……many happily singed eyebrows………..its really hot…..and good fun once youve had a couple of drinks………..

When we go camping i always take one large log for every night we are there……we supplement this with wood that we buy at the campsite…….once the large log is burning and turning to coal you have the basis for a really efficient fire that will burn until morning with only the addition of minimal amounts of additional fuel……..

Ok see……..although i started with nothing to say its actually rather easy to just jot down whatever comes into your head at the moment…….a good excersize id say……….gets the blogging mojo moving a little……i could ramble on all day now…….

But i wont

Have a greatday all

  1. That’s the one thing I still want to get at my house.
Either a little Mexican pot bellied stove, or an old fashioned cast iron stove.
Just adore fire – can sit and watch it for hours…

    • its well worth it……i would like a cast iron stove…but they are very expensive…..google the elle range of woodburning range stoves…impressive……but we just have one of those steel plate jet master type things…..one of the best things we ever bought as far as im concerned
